There is something about self propelled bikes and scooters that will always elicit a special appeal to children. Almost universally, once a child sees an electric scooter, they want one of their own. With the cost of kids electric scooters such as the Razor E100 so affordable, it is within the reach of most, especially as a Christmas or birthday gift. As parents, our primary concern is to ensure that these scooters are safe. Here are some safety recommendations:

1.	Make sure that the operator of these scooters always wear a safety helmet
2.	Never allow them to be operated in the street. If sidewalks are used, instruct your kids to be aware of the possibility of cars entering and exiting driveways.
3.	Purchase a scooter that has a maximum speed that is safe for your child’s age and skill level. I usually recommend a maximum speed of 10 MPH for beginners.
4.	Do not allow scooters to be operated on steep incline. Obviously this is a judgment call, but nothing is worse that seeing a child accelerating uncontrollably down a hill.
5.	Instruct your child on the operation of the brakes.
6.	Make sure the scooter handle bars are adjusted to the appropriate height. Some scooters lack this capability; if this is the case verify that the fixed handle height is appropriate for your child.

The above recommendations are general guidelines. Of course only you know your child’s abilities and judgment skills. It’s better to purchase a scooter that is under-powered than to risk injury to your child because the scooter is too much to handle.

Priced considerably above the Razor E300 at about $380, it appears that you get quite a bit extra for the additional cost. Based on reviews of buyers who had previously owned a Razor, the battery life, run time, range, acceleration and top speed are all superior. It is also reported to be easier to assemble. At 750 watts, this is definitely a serious scooter capable of handling riders over 200 lbs, even on grades. There is an seat included that can be added in seconds based on user preference.

The E300S is the seated version of the E300 (hence the “S” tacked on the end of the model number). Going from an E200 to an E300 will get you more power, a larger deck, and 10″ pneumatic tires instead of 8 inch. Recommended for kids over 12 and adults, it is capable of speeds up to 15 MPH. Even though it is safe for adult over 200 pounds, if you are approaching that weight and you anticipate using it on hills, you may want to look at higher powered models. It performs well, even on rather steep grades for kids. Another feature not included on the E300 and not on the E200 and E100 are fully adjustable handlebars. Some buyers have complained that the battery depletes after 45 minutes, and then recharging takes 12 hours. <a title="More at Amazon" href="http://www.amazon.com/Razor-E300S-Seated-Electric-Scooter/dp/B001K3JUFM/ref=sr_1_1/189-4294581-0338263?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1251667918&sr=8-1?ie=UTF8&tag=custombuildit-20rel="nofollow""> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Razor-E300S-Seated-Electric-Scooter/dp/B001K3JUFM/ref=sr_1_1/189-4294581-0338263?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1251667918&sr=8-1?ie=UTF8&tag=custombuildit-20"rel="nofollow">(more…)
